Details and Specification of Quartz use in Metal Industries

  • Quartz/Silica Granules

Quartz granules are used during the raw iron production as builder of slag in the blast furnace process and quartz is also used as protective coating in the steel gutters and in the blast furnace process.

    Our Quartz (Silica) Specifications

high content of SiO2 from 99.5% to 99.9%

low content of alkali, Mostly not available

    Low Fe content upto 0.008%

    Mohs hardness 7

Quartz specifications suitable for use in matal industries

The specifications for use of quartz granules and powder may vary from company to company and but high purity quartz granules and powder is used in furnance and refractory use.

Industrial sand is an essential part of the ferrous and non-ferrous foundry industry. Silica’s high fusion point (1650-1760°C) and low rate of thermal expansion produce stable cores and moulds compatible with all pouring temperatures and alloy systems. Its chemical purity also helps prevent interaction with catalysts or curing rate of chemical binders. Following the casting process, core sand can be thermally or mechanically recycled to produce new cores or moulds.

Speification of Quartz powder and granules:

    Sio2 above 98%

Fe2O3: Should be around 0.04% or below

Other trace elements: should be below 1.0%

No trace elements or contimination like clay, sand etc
